ABSTRACT
Intuition and spontaneity are inherent characteristics to the human being, capable of turning real their sensorial and unconscious atmosphere. With the Architectural and Design School of the Catholic University of Valparaíso as a study case, the presented thesis is developed over the relation between a view of architecture based on this assumption, and its building practice.
At first, the work presents the responsible members for the creation of the “Grupo”, Alberto Cruz and Godofredo Iommi, as well as the influence that the European alternative models of the twentieth century had on their architectural conception: the idea that it is inseparable of poetry. The Open City is the “experimental laboratory” that will allow the research about the School teaching method, together with the uncommon geography of Chile and the irregular topography of the Valparaíso city.
The alternative bias of this teaching method allows the exchange of views with other patterns that have appeared on the same century, therefore improving the investigation of an architectural practice that has remained for over sixty years.
